Are you divergent?

The High School Library Book Club is reading their second book of this year's Book to Movie List.

Divergent by Veronica Roth is the title we are reading, discussing and watching the movie on December 7th in the high school library starting at 6:00.  Check out a book today! Everyone is invited.

This book flew through the high school and middle school last winter as one of the most popular books. In March the movie came out - I'm probably one of the few people who didn't see it. Will the movie live up to the book's popularity?

Take the the Divergent Aptitude test and share the results with the library. We will post them out in the hall. How many of you have a strong alignment with one faction or are you too DIVERGENT!

Poem In My Pocket

Today is Poem In My Pocket Day!  This day's intention is to have everyone carry a poem and share the poem with others. Celebrate Poetry!  MVHS was invited to share poetry by sharing their favorite poems. Mrs. Hale made this great display in the hallway. Take a minute to read a poem that was a favorite of one of MVHS's teachers.

So find a poem, share the poem and celebrate poetry!

And the winner is....

The Library March Madness winner at MVHS is....

The Hunger Games beat To Kill a Mockingbird by about 15 votes.

Even if my book didn't win the contest, I was glad to see the number of kids and teachers that voted for each day's contest. Anything that gets students talking about books is a good thing.

The Final Four

My NCAA bracket was basically a bust after the first two rounds, many upsets. I'm glad there is another bracket going on at the high school, maybe I'll do better in this one.

The Mount Vernon High School has its own March Madness with a book bracket. The teachers of MVHS were asked to suggest their favorite book title to be a part of the contest. The bracket was created and the contest was underway. Everyday, for the last 10 days students and staff have been set a link to vote through Polleverywhere.com to vote for their favorite book.We are down to the sweet 8 with the following books still in the competition:
  • Ender's Game
  • Hunger Games
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • Les Miserables
  • Hatchet
  • When Pride Still Mattered: A Life of Vince Lombardi
  • The Da Vinci Code
  • To Kill a Mockingbird

By next Monday MVHS will determine the winner of the Library March Madness contest!
